In the summer of 2014 I was invited to take part in a photo shoot for the Print Work Magazine. The concept was for five talented photographers to take photos of the same models, wearing same dresses and posing at the same studio, but to produce completely different photos. The photo shoot was a great success.
Following the shoot, one of my photos has been chosen to be on the cover of the Print Work magazine! This was my very first magazine cover! This issue of the magazine was presented at the Park Studios in Los Angeles and subsequently distributed in Los Angeles, Vancouver and New York. I am very proud of this accomplishment and foresee many more covers in my future!

The shoot took place at a studio in Vancouver. When I arrived the other photographers were already set up and starting to shoot. In comparison to the others, I had the bare basics in terms of equipment. Here is a setup of one other photographer.
Here is my setup! All I had in terms of equipment was my camera and a small portable soft-box with a strobe (the stand to the left of me is the soft-box, the other stands are decorative).
Therefore, to be honest, when I walked into a studio I was intimidated. I kept thinking: “Will I be able to produce work comparable to other great photographers in the studios?” Little did I know that my photo will soon be on the cover! 😉
To be honest, this was the fanciest shoot I’ve done in terms of conditions. I am used to working with MUAs and stylist, but this was a first time I was shooting with a DJ and a barista in the studio! It was very neat to be shooting while the DJ was spinning and to get a late made for you in between the takes. For a moment, I felt like I am a big shot photographer in New York or Milan. Though, I don’t even know if they get such royal treatment.
I was absolutely in love with the dresses designed by wonderful Syra Emerson. The models were great also. Here are the other photos that were included in the first issue of the Print Work Magazine.
While I was shooting, I kept thinking: “What will make my photos stand out from the others? What props can I use to make this more interesting?” To my delight I saw a ladder in a studio and had an “Aha” moment. A ladder is a wonderful prop as it allowed my models to move and find interesting poses. Luckily for me, Anna – one of the models, was adventurous and fearless enough to climb to the top of the ladder! As this was much higher than my poor little stand could reach, I asked one of the photographers to help me hold the light. The result is one of my favorite shots from this shoot. I like how simple and clean it is. I absolutely love the lines and the triangles that can be found in the ladder and model’s poses.
After a long but very satisfying day at the studio, I went home to retouch the photos. I soon found out that my photo was chosen to be on the cover! The issue of the Print Work Magazine was launched in LA at the Park Studios Hwood. I was invited to the reception, but unable to attend. Here are a couple of photos from that reception with my photos on the walls.
I am very grateful to Curtis Bechdholt and Andrea Bell for inviting me to this wonderful shoot! It exceeded all my expectations. I am very proud to have one of my photos on the cover of the Print Work magazine!
